Getting your fuelling right can make all the difference to your whole day so considering your nutrition before, during & after your sports is essential if you want to avoid the peak & slump of energy levels.

For moderate intensity exercise you should aim to consume 45g-60g carbohydrates per hour - towards 45g for low intensity exercise & increasing to 60g-90g for higher intensity sessions. 

For sessions lasting more than 90 minutes it's important to start re-fuelling from the start. 

On average our energy bars contain 40g carbohydrates, our gels contain 22g carbohydrates, our energy chews deliver 42g per pack & there is 22g of natural energy in our real hydration too.

For any workout that lasts longer than 90 minutes it is essential that you fuel for your recovery too. ^(30,31) The best way to do this is with 100% natural & delicious real food, with the optimal balance of Carbohydrates and Protein. ^(16-18)

Fuelling your recovery means you should aim to rehydrate, replenish glycogen stores & start to rebuild muscle within the first 30 minutes after exercise. ⁽³⁰⁾
Your muscles store energy in the form of glycogen that is released when you exercise. When you work hard your muscles' stores of glycogen are depleted & this is known as the Glycogen Debt. To optimise recovery it is essential to top up these stores - the quicker the better. Glycogen stores are built up by eating glucose and that means that carbohydrates are your best friends at this time. ⁽³⁰⁾

With the optimal Carbohydrate:Protein ratio each Mocha bar & each Vita recovery protein shake has plenty of the all-natural essential stuff to kick start your recovery. ^(17,18)
